Protect yourself

Retirement savers are a favorite target. Five patterns cover most of what you’ll ever see — learn them once and you’re hard to fool.

The five patterns

1 · The urgent impersonator

  • A call, text, or email claiming to be MyFreeIRA, your custodian, or the IRS, demanding immediate action.
  • The tell: manufactured urgency plus a request for a password, a one-time code, or remote access. We will never ask for any of those — nobody legitimate does.

2 · The redirected payment

  • “Updated” wire or deposit instructions arriving by email or phone.
  • The tell: any change of payment destination delivered outside the platform. Use only the instructions shown inside your account.

3 · The guaranteed return

  • An “opportunity” with guaranteed high returns, often pitched to move retirement money.
  • The tell: the word “guaranteed.” Returns are never guaranteed; anyone saying otherwise is selling risk in a costume.

4 · The account-takeover setup

  • A “security check” asking you to confirm your login, or a link to a look-alike site.
  • The tell: the address bar. Type myfreeira.com yourself; never sign in from a link you didn’t expect.

5 · The recovery scam

  • After any loss, someone offers — for a fee — to get your money back.
  • The tell: upfront payment to a stranger who found you. Report losses to the real institution and authorities; never pay a recoverer.

If something already happened

Change your password, then email support@myfreeira.com with what happened and when. Acting in the first hours matters more than anything else you do.

Educational content, not an exhaustive list. When in doubt, stop and verify through a channel you found yourself — not one provided by the person contacting you.
